COLUMBUS, Ohio— Amazon Web Services is planning to spend $7.8 billion in the next seven years to build new data centers in Central Ohio, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Monday. The project, which backers expect will create 230 full-time data-center jobs and 1,000 secondary support jobs, is the latest in a series of tech company announcements about building facilities in the Columbus area. When completed, it will be the second-largest single investment by a private-sector company in Ohio's history, according to a release from DeWine's office.
